More than an outer coat, a fur coat is a heritage item, an investment in unmatched cosiness and in elements of undying beauty. Nevertheless, its fine work and complicated construction render it one of the most demanding objects to change. Standard tailoring methods are not only inefficient, instead, they can lead to irreparable damage. We offer these treasured works an escape in our studio, a handicraft fur work of the finest level, where experts, with their rare knowledge, equipment and reverence, can take your coat and recreate it without compromising its structure or its worth, its call of exquisite allure and dignity.
The methodology would start with the careful and sincere consultation. We also critically analyse the skin, lining, and construction of a coat to identify the entire range of what can be structurally and ethically accomplished. The pelts themselves, the form of which must always be taken into account, and the method of sewing employed, the so-called letting-out, do not admit of being enlarged on any appreciable scale. We offer clear evaluation and a vivid outline of the most prevalent and effective changes which consist of:
Shortening the Sleeve at the Shoulder: It is the only method which leaves the fur flowing in its natural way, and the natural cuff. It is a complicated process that requires the removal of the whole sleeve cap and repositioning it to a new, ideal length.
Body Tapering: Pulling the side seams to make the shape more defined and contemporary. This involves a twofold process of shrinking down the pelt panels and skilfully reshaping them to keep the coat flowing and not having a heavy finish.
General Shortening: The length of the coat is decreased especially on the bottom hem but without altering the original line and balance of the coat.
Lining Replacement and Repair: A new, soft lining of silk or cupro to give the coat its easy slide and unnoticeable comfort again.
Our service is characterised by a technical process, which is entirely opposite to the traditional tailoring. We use special implements such as surgical furrier knives to cut in a straight line, and the sewing is done by a tedious hand-sewing, which preserves the soft side of the pelts. Each of the adjustments is computed to follow the natural grain and bend of the fur. When you give us your fur you invest in it. What you get is a coat that fits your body as well as a tailor-made one would, which has also regained its usability, making this great family heirloom continue to be one of the central pieces of your wardrobe storey in the future.
